Accomplishments
In the year of 2005 it was Nastia's first year as a Senior International Elite. She stared off by winning 5 gold medals at the WOGA Classic. At this meet she was only ment to compete bars and beam but they allowed her to compete all-around. Then Nastia traveled to New York to compete in the American Cup for the first time. She easily qualified through each. In April the USA Women toured Europe to train and compete against the National Teams of the United Kingdom and Switzerland. The US woman easily won both team competitions thanks to Nastias help.
In July Nastia returned to compete at US Classic. Having already successfully qualified to Nationals she became the first American gymnast to ever attempt a skill with a blind landing but Nastia did it and proved everyone wrong. She went on to win her first US Classic title as a senior as well as gold medals on uneven bars and balance beam. Nastia's had a very good national season which came to an end in Indianapolis at the VISA USA Championships. She entered the event as one the top for the title but she had a scary fall on her dismount from the beam which put her in 3rd place. The didnt stop her. She made a come back with a season high 9.800 score on beam. This helped her to her get her third consecutive National All Around title. She also won event gold medals on uneven bars and balance beam as well as a silver on floor exercise. After making it this far Nastia had a bad knee injury which made her have to miss the Pan American Championships.
In November Nastia achieved one of her career goals by being selected as a member of a World Championship Team. She went to Melbourne with her knee competly healed. She had her mind set to collecting and winning all 4 medals. In one of the closest all around scored ever contested, Nastia won the silver medal behind Chellsie Memmel. She won by .001. Nastia returned from Melbourne as a two time World Champion and the most decorated gymnast at the Championships.
In 2008 Nastia qualified for the Olympics. She travled all the way out to Bejing. She was ready to win with her dad as her coach. Nastia ended up taking first place all around and leaving with a gold medal. She became the most decorated American gymnast of the year. Once she got back home she was rewarded the Athlete of the year award for America.
